Steps to replace a part on a car without a climate system and power steering

The design on the model in this configuration without power steering is a little simpler and, accordingly, it will cause the owner the least trouble in operation and repair, since this version is rare on engines with 16 valves.

However, the disadvantage of this arrangement during repair is the possible damage to the generator due to a tightened belt.

The generator is located in a different place, access to it and to its parts is correspondingly easier - the whole process of removing and installing a new part is quite simple.

  • Direct removal of a non-working part and its subsequent repair (or individual parts, for example, rings, pulley) is carried out from the crankshaft.
  • In this case, it is advisable to check the exact tension of the new belt in order to avoid damage to the generator, if anything, tighten it. This can be done using a special tester or other equipment, so check the health of related components - the regulator and bearings. However, often the owners have to be content with the strain on the "eye", since the measuring equipment is quite specific, it is correct to tighten everything up.

Generator brushes on a car - maintenance

When carrying out maintenance of the brushes, preventive work is carried out not only for the brushes, but also for the generator shields in the following sequence:

  • It is necessary to remove the contact brushes of the generator.
  • Then you should get the chassis levers (for the convenience of maintenance work with brushes).
  • Next, you need to remove the fixing elements of the upper shield.
  • The next step is to remove the engine crankcase protection. The protection is mounted on several bolts. When dismantling the protection, precautions must be taken.
  • After removing, disassembling the shields, they are cleaned, dirt is removed and the elements are installed.

Failure to do so can cause major problems.

How to replace the power source?

This Renault Sandero unit is quite complicated, so experts advise to repair it only in the conditions of a specialized workshop, using methods approved by the manufacturer. In many cases, replacement is more appropriate. It is produced according to the following scheme.

  • First, it dismantles the belt with the release of the roller tension, using the above sequence of actions.
  • Next, disconnect the block with wires. The latch on the housing is pressed with a flat-blade screwdriver. The nut is unscrewed and the lead wire is separated from the clamp.
  • The fastening points of the compressor, the GU pump are loosened. Hoses and pipes are not separated, and the corresponding blocks are shifted to access the bolts that fix the generator. This will make it easier to retrieve later.
  • When the dismantling is completed and no additional malfunctions have been identified, the assembly is performed in the reverse order.
  • The belt is installed. It is adjustable using a tension roller.

Upon completion of all work on the repair of the Renault Sandero car, the on-board network is connected.

The roller has an NSK bearing, and the belt is made of high-quality EPDM rubber, so there are no problems with them. But their biggest advantage is the price. Roller - 1.02 €/pc. Belt - 3.85 €. Just a holiday.

Using a 15 key clockwise for the roller bolt, we press the tensioner spring. The manual says that you need to insert something into the hole to fix the roller in the cocked position, but I didn’t see any holes, I spat, and just threw off the belt.

The manual says to put the belt 5RK1747 leaving one stream on the pulleys empty, but I had the original 6RK1822. Therefore, as a replacement, I took the same one, only 1820, 2 mm shorter. To be honest, I barely dressed him either, I have no idea how they want to dress 1747 ...

Replacing the drive belt for auxiliary units of the engine 1.4–1.6 (8V) Renault Sandero, Stepway


In accordance with the maintenance regulations, we replace the auxiliary drive belt every 60 thousand kilometers or after 4 years (whichever comes first), regardless of its condition. We perform work on a viewing ditch or overpass.
At each maintenance, we recommend checking the condition of the belt.
The belt must be replaced if cracks, tears and delamination of rubber from the fabric base are found on it.
Depending on the vehicle configuration, there are three options for auxiliary drive circuits.

Option 1

We fix the roller bracket by inserting a “6” hexagon or a rod with a diameter of 6 mm into its hole and the recess in the body of the tensioner.

After installing the belt, slightly turning the tension roller with a key, remove the latch. Then, with the “18” head with a ratchet, we turn the crankshaft clockwise three turns for the bolt securing its pulley in order to achieve the correct position of the belt.

Option 2

The manufacturer recommends checking the tension of the belt of auxiliary units of a car with power steering and without air conditioning using a special tool (tensometric tester) at a RENAULT dealership. Considering that the belt may need to be changed on the way (for example, when it breaks), away from the service, we will show a method in which you can approximately estimate the belt tension.

Remove the right mudguard of the engine compartment (see. "Removing the mudguards of the engine compartment"). From the bottom of the car with your thumb, press the belt in the middle between the pulleys of the power steering pump and crankshaft. With a pressing force of ~10 kgf, the belt deflection should be 6–8 mm. To tension the belt, loosen the two bolts 4 fastening the tension roller bracket and turn the adjusting bolt 3 clockwise. After tightening the belt, tighten the tension roller fastening bolts.

Do not overtighten the belt! Excessive belt tension leads to premature failure of both the belt itself and the alternator bearings.
To replace the belt, turn the adjusting bolt 3 counterclockwise by several turns and loosen the bolts 4 for fastening the tension roller bracket. After loosening the belt tension, remove it from the pulleys. Marking of the drive belt of auxiliary units of a car with power steering and without air conditioning - 5K 1110 (five-strand, 1110 mm long).
When replacing the belt, the tensioner must also be replaced.
Install the accessory drive belt in reverse order.

The pulleys for the drive of auxiliary units, the generator, the air conditioning compressor and the power steering pump are six-stranded, and the drive belt is five-stranded.
